Plant Joy is a movement about improving health through food, access and education
on the life-saving impact of plant foods!

Plant Joy is wildly passionate about the power of food and its connection to our health. We know that food is medicine and can change the bodies biochemistry if we eat the right, bright, plant foods. Our goal is to educate and feed our community healthy, delicious and nutritious food that can prevent and reverse some chronic disease. Healthy foods should be accessible and available to anyone who wants to eat better! Which is why we teach cooking classes and why we deliver throughout Southeast Wisconsin. Let us help you eat better to feel better!

At age 36, Amberlea Childs (Owner and Head Chef) was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer and tired of hearing “What you eat does not matter,” she began researching nutrition and was enlightened while reading The China Study by T. Colin CampbellAmberlea made changes to her diet immediately and moments after her cancer diagnosis, became a plant based vegan. Childs used food as a medicine to assist her body and immune system through vigorous treatments and multiple surgeries. Today, she uses food to prevent a recurrence of disease and to maintain optimal health. The entire Childs family (children too) enjoy cooking, eating and the benefits of a whole foods plant based regime.

“Food is our bodies fuel and our foundation for health. What we eat does matter and is quite powerful in fighting off disease and helping to achieve and reach pinnacle health. I encourage others to try a whole foods, plant based diet as a first defense in health and healing. It's easier than you think.” says, Childs.

Amberlea has been a health educator for 17 years and in 2014 became a Certified Food for Life instructor with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. Her specialty is revamping those old family favorites into healthier plant based dishes. She specializes in working with anyone interested in a whole-food, plant- based diet for disease prevention or optimal health. Childs hosts plant based/vegan cooking classes virtually and in person, offers kitchen coaching, catering and has her own
plant based food delivery company in Milwaukee, WI.

Cooking classes focus on eating for optimal health, cancer prevention, diabetes, heart disease and weight loss. In 2018, she completed her Professional Plant-Based Chef Certification with Rouxbe Culinary School.
Oh Yeah!

Why I became a Food for Life instructor.
I believe my plant-based dietary changes strengthened me during treatment and help keep me cancer-free today. Food is our fuel, and what we eat does matter. However, I didn’t find enough support, resources or really any helpful information about the many benefits food can provide before, during and after treatment. Many doctors, nurses and dietitians would advise by saying, “You can eat whatever you want, just take in 2000 calories a day.” That is bad advice and that does not help the body fight disease.
I wanted more info, so I researched and found what I was looking for, an entire network of doctors, researchers, dietitians and patients like me that all believe that FOOD IS MEDICINE (PCRM.org). This is my camp, these are my people, and together we know that eating a plant-based diet can not only reverse many forms of chronic illness but it can prevent most of the very diseases we suffer from today.

I want to share this needed information with anyone who wants to learn and explore the power of food.

Plant Joy offers a weekly vegan menu for delivery throughout Milwaukee in addition to catering, health presentations and vegan food demonstrations. Amberlea is available for travel and serves the greater Milwaukee area, and Southern Wisconsin.
